Two vaisala PMB220 barometers, U4110004 and NCAR0003 have
failed during this project.
They will work if one sets an internal dip switch to
"use factory defaults". Switch bank S1,
SW8=ON=factory defaults, OFF=user settings.
The barometers do not work if set to OFF=user settings.
The factory defaults for the serial port are 9600,even,7.
My plan for using these barometers is to install them
on stations that are configured for the barometer
on a serial port (choose from 1,4,5,7,8), and change
the serial port config from none,8 to even,7.
The current stations without a barometer are 6 and 9.
So the plan is to put U4110004 at station 1, and take
whatever barometer that was at 1 to station 9.
Then put NCAR0003 at station 4 and take 4's barometer to 6.

A solution to the TRH RF pickup which we tried was to jury rig a ground
for the TRH radiation shield tubes. This was installed at Station 1.
At Station 4 the efficiency of the shielding was checked by watching the
fast data noise. The shielding was not sufficiently efficient and so
the antenna was moved to a post several meters SSW of the mast using
a double length cable coupled with a barrell

St4 14:30-15:15
TRH Noise Problem Note:
Note: This noise apparently doesn't appear on the RH, only
the resistive T transducer.
St1:10/17 we moved the yaggi antenna to the West leg.
This may have reduced the noise on the Trh.
10/18 we tried for giggles putting a ground
wire from the shield tube up to the main housing
to see if that would help.
Looking at data messages on the PC, we did not
see the noise.
St4:10/18 This station had been setup with a microStrip (ie
broader beam width than yaggi) on the west leg.
We confirmed that was OK for preventing noise on
the microBaro, but it clearly had the worst noise
of all stations on the Trh.
We tried the 'funky ground wire on the shield' and
per observing the data messages on the PC, that clearly
did not fix the problem.....bummer.
We moved the antenna roughly to the SW by about 3m and
that fixed it.
Result: Improvement in shielding of TRH needed (further tests in
Boulder to help determine best method)
Greater awareness in placement of GOES antennas to avoid
problem esp. in user sensors. Thank goodness it
didn't effect the turbulent flux csat/h2o, etc.

The night 16 - 17 Oct was clear but no frost.
All Station Up and Reporting
Note: we've moved all antennas at 'user-sensor' stations and those
sensors have greatly improved by brief looks through the data for ea.
However, the NCAR-T data is still effected in most cases. One of
the worst is st4 where I put the microstrip antenna on the west leg
during setup. That meant that the microBaro there never really has
had the noise problem, but the T definitely has it very clearly.
From quick looks at RH, that capacitive transducer doesn't seem
effected.
Result: during post processing, all T data should perhaps be re-cov'd
with the data during xmit removed. That shouldn't change the means
by very much (~.0x deg).
Secondly we need to improve the transducer's shielding.....

WX: rain showers in Albany
Still do not have DSL service at the base. Talked with Verizon yesterday
and (under pressure) they were hopeful in a day or two. Meanwhile took
ASTER to Residence Inn. There connected to internet, but Gordon could
not access aster apparently due to firewall at ISP. Will try same at
SUNY today.
Kurt visited stations 7 and 1 yesterday. He got 7 back on the air by a
"laying on of the hands", then did normal service at 7 and 1 before
returning to the base. I looked at the data tables on the web page
yesterday afternoon and this morning. All looks good except KH2O this
morning due to rain.

- 33: EVE, Site all, Fri 12-Sep-2003 16:30:40 EDT, Note on Formats per Suny O3/CO2/MicroBaros
Per Dave Fitzgerald,
Suny will install their sensors (someday) as follows:
(hopefully they'll be able to test them in the base trailer
using the 'testbed' eve system so we won't need another config change later)
O3: 2,3,9 via SOAD-6
MicBaro 2,3,4,6,8,9 via SOAD-5
CO2: 2,3,6,9 via EVE-tyCo/6, requires baro on Sbus
Polling Rate of Sensors:
SOAD 1hz with O3,microBaro to allow 'flux estimation'
This capability was tested on several boxes during setup
and it work well.
CO2 reporting at 1hz. Tested in Boulder
Only problem will be where PTB220's need to be re-arranged
because some don't work on sbus: specifically for box #9.
This will require config adjustments from initial settings:
Formats were edited on 9/11 as follows:
160: has 4-comp, CO2, microB, O3, PTB220baro on Sbus
loads: hvamlogr.all
1hz polling of SOAD
slight change from before to put the microBaro on AD-5 and O3 on AD-6.
161: has none of the above. no change, PTB220baro by itself on tyCo/6
loads: hvamlogr.few
.2hz polling of SOAD
162: has CO2, microB, O3, PTB220baro on Sbus
loads: hvamlogr.few
1hz polling of SOAD
revised from before of channels on SOAD, adding O3
163: has MicroB, PTB220baro by itself on tyCo/6
loads: hvamlogr.few
1hz polling of SOAD
- 28: Sonics, Site all, Fri 12-Sep-2003 16:06:10 EDT, Sonic Heights
Per Dave Fitzgerald / Jeff Friedman:
All Sonics were setup at 7m with booms pointing toward the West.
All Kryptons were mounted vertically 30cm back from the sampling volume.

Notes:
Basic Site Layout:
CSAT height 7m at all Stations
orientation boom pointing toward the west
Rad-Sawhores ~10m to SE of main tower
PV stands ~10m to NE of main tower
St2 CS615-002 BAD at setup. PspIn bad at setup.
St3 GPS coordinates provided by Suny off: actual = 41.52988, -73.54881 per SE1200 GOES/GPS
St4 Rnet In s/n 10835 installed but values in TD log entry indicate cal for 7122 which
was also shown for st7....The cal values in the logger are same as what's shown
in TD logbook entry, so we think there was a typo on the id number in that log entry!?
St5 Kh2o 1394 installed after setup on 9/7 ~23:45Z after base arrived and spare mounting
collars were available.
Site layout compromized by being on a slope in apple orchard.
Very rocky ground: sand-bagged main tower to secure it.
St6 Did not complete site photos on setup: camera batteries died.
Site layout compromized a bit by corn field, etc.
St8 HFT 943149 BAD at setup, probably bad cable or sensor, spare sent from Boulder
RMY needs ZN and BDxxx set although the 'ZN' was supposedly done for all in Boulder
and the nominal BD000 should be 'in-ballpark
St9 See other logbook entry: thread on csat transducers per SO testing in Boulder.
