- 360: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Fri 08-Jun-2007 14:49:13 PDT, 1.5 m kh2o on vertical tower replaced
1.5 m kh2o went to zero coincident with watering, but has not recovered.
No water on lenses. Cleaned 14:38
16:30 replaced 1395 head with 1393 head
- 343: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Mon 04-Jun-2007 15:28:03 PDT, cleaned kh2o
Cleaned the 1.5 m and 6 m kh2o
1.5 m at 14:57 - 15:00
4.5 m at 15:06 - 15:09
- 316: kh2o, Site horizontal array, Wed 30-May-2007 09:53:43 PDT, kryptons and Licors cleaned during array narrowing 29 May
kh2o and LiCor window cleaning during array narrowing procedure yesterday.
- 305: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sun 27-May-2007 10:57:17 PDT, Changed electronics box of k.14m - tower climb, and other activity
Electronics box S/N 1392 put in for krypton at 14m on tower. S/N 1393 taken out.
We believe this will steady the performance of k.14m (which has been flakey
at regular intervals).
Tower climb began 1118LT and end 1152LT.
The krypton was plugged at 1140LT.
Krypton went bad at ~1302LT, indicating that the electronics box was probably
not the problem.
We decided to then change out the serializer in the CSAT box (rather than
changing out the entire sonic and CSAT box) as a further test. If that does not
work then we'll have reasonably strong evidence that it is the krypton-CSAT box
cable or the wiring to or from the serializer along the data path.
The system was down from 1543LT until 1604LT with tower climbing beginning at
1535LT. Off tower at 1615LT.
- 301: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sat 26-May-2007 12:55:24 PDT, Cycled k.14m (S7, upper), inadvertant others
kh2o.14m (S7 upper) was power cycled as a change out was not possible due to
watering.
Inadvertantly, S13 and S17 were also cycled due to mental failure (not by
this author).
- 300: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sat 26-May-2007 12:40:42 PDT, Odd behavior in kh2o.7.5m overnight
k.7.5m stood out as high overnight. This could be physical or it could be a bug
crawled across the window (slept there) or some other cause. We are unsure but
it is now clean and functioning normally.
Also, cycled for good measure (S7, lower)
- 296: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sat 26-May-2007 12:31:25 PDT, Tower kryptons cleaned/checked
All of the tower kryptons were cleaned between 1110LT and 1230LT today.
Only the 23m sonic/krypton boom was lifted to do the cleaning.
- 295: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sat 26-May-2007 10:23:45 PDT, 1.5m kh2o 'misaligned'
23may07 ~12:30 PDT
1.5m Kh2o was smacked hard by Ned's head.
Note the ~.2v drop in output at that time.
Appears the response and fluxes are still reasonable.
There is a noticable (~.5cm) horizontal misalignment now.
Manually aligned at 1112-1115LT today with some gain in voltage.
- 292: kh2o, Site horizontal array, Fri 25-May-2007 19:20:57 PDT, kryptons and LiCor's cleaned
Kryptons and LiCors were cleaned between 18:00 and 19:00LT.
- 274: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Mon 21-May-2007 13:02:38 PDT, 14m Kh2o head only swapped
21may07 12:00-12:50
14m kh2o had been a problem, and it went bad again late yesterday.
We decided to replace just the head:
out 1393
in 1397
since according to Campbell this can apparently be done without
effecting the data. It is breezy today and we decided to not
mess with the electronics box itself.
Still a chance that this won't fix the intermittent problem...
Data looks very good as of 16:00LT.
- 262: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sat 19-May-2007 09:05:47 PDT, 14m Kh2o bad / recycled power
19may07 9:00 Recycled power to 14m kh2o
The values were bad from 18may 19:30Z - 19may 16:00Z
Previous power recycle overcame this problem for only 4 days.
- 236: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Tue 15-May-2007 12:25:08 PDT, Flakey 14m krypton, power cycle
15may07 11:40 - 11:50 Upper
14m krypton was flakey once again.
While monitoring the csat, voltage was basically '0'
Cycled power on ttyS7 and it came back up looking ok.
This will not fix the problem (no-doubt), but probably
eliminates a cable problem on the krypton.
Most likely next step either swap kh2o, or the serializer,
one or the other is the culprit (or a cable inside the csat
box).
Ops good today with south winds so did not pursue further.
- 215: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sun 13-May-2007 17:00:45 PDT, krypton 7.5m 12 May
Krypton at 7.5m cleaned with significant increase in V @0955LT. Good for
operations

- 198: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sun 13-May-2007 15:27:17 PDT, Kryp 1.5m cleaning
1.5m krypton cleaned at 1125LT. Good result.
- 195: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sat 12-May-2007 18:16:30 PDT, Kryp.14m, 7.5m, 1.5m + cleanings
14m intermittent behaviour was evaluated at 1005LT. Working well but has had
problems. Judged stable enough to go into ops tomorrow. It was cleaned too.
Low voltage on 7.5m lead to a cleaning at 0955LT. Notable increase in V and
we noted a bee in between the windows!
1.5 m cleaning 1800LT made things worse. Reclean tomorrow.
- 174: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Wed 25-Apr-2007 09:29:15 MDT, 14 m kh2o recovered April 23
The 14 m kh2o appears to have recovered ~1515 PDT, April 23.
- 132: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Tue 10-Apr-2007 15:38:58 PDT, krypton at 14m strange
As I mentioned in status, the 14m krypton is strange. Keith just reseated
the connectors, so we'll see if there is any change. (Though a look with
prep() at the signal doesn't show any change.) It is an intermittent
problem.
- 131: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Tue 10-Apr-2007 15:37:23 PDT, krypton 7.5 cleaned
Since I saw little change when Keith cleaned the krypton at 7.5m, I asked him
to do it again today (~1515). I still see no change, so I guess it was
clean after all! (But it is now the lowest voltage.)
- 122: kh2o, Site horizontal array, Sun 08-Apr-2007 18:29:56 PDT, Horizontal KH2O Sensors Cleaned
All of the horizontal array KH2O sensors where cleaned today after thr Saturday morning tree spraying. Distilled water and QTips where used to clean them.
- 116: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Sun 08-Apr-2007 18:16:16 PDT, KH2O Sensors on the 30m Tower Cleaned
All KH2O sensors where cleaned on the 30 meter tower after the Saturday morning spraying of the trees. Distilled water and QTips where used to clean them.
- 46: kh2o, Site all, Sat 24-Mar-2007 11:33:23 PDT, kh2o calibration files
The cal files are in
$ISFF/projects/CHATS/ISFF/cal_files and
$ISFF/cal_files/kryptonNNNN.
The ones in CHAT/ISFF/cal_files have names
corresponding to their location on the tower or array.
Those files just do an include "kryptonNNNN" on a given
date.
For example, krypton_3t.dat:
2007 Feb 10 00:00:00 include "krypton1133"
That means for cal data after Feb 10 look in krypton1133.
In krypton1133 is the complete cal history for 1133.
You can check the kryptonXXXX files in $ISFF/cal_files. They
should have Steve's latest values.
If one swapped in another kryton at 3t, say on Apr 13, you
would add another record to krypton_3t.dat, like so:
2007 Feb 10 00:00:00 include "krypton1133"
2007 Apr 13 18:40:00 include "krypton1391"
The xml is where the top level names are specified:
CHATS/ISFF/config/ops1.xml:
- 30: kh2o, Site 30m tower, Wed 21-Mar-2007 09:14:32 PDT, 10 m kh2o mount changed
On Tuesday, Mar 20, Steve changed the 10 m krypton from the south to the
north side of the sonic in order to not interfere with the hot film.
