Good flight, except that the # of satellites used in wind estimation was zero
at the first few hundred meter and was regained to 7 or 8 after that.
The ascending of sonde was shown on MPAR plot in two parts separated by

exists within the layer. However, the wind direction from sonde does not
show that.

Again, 10 sec data was frozen but the raw data are fine.
The signal strength is still relatively weak (50 dB pre-launnch) and
drop to zero quickly. For the first few mim, switching between yagi and omni
does not help. However, the switching seems working after a while, the signal
junmps to 40dB and slightly decreases.
The sonde was observed by MAPR. An inversion occurs at 5.5km.

Sonde signal was ok before launch; 45 dB on omni and 75 on Yagi, but became
weaker soon after launch, 13db then 0 db. However, it tracks ok even at
0dB. Problem could be blocking by terrain (eg. it was once 40km downwind
while 8km AGL, or about 11 degrees above the horizon). Will use more Helium
next time. GPS tracking fine (7+ satellites used in solution).
Used 35 cu ft Helium
Tuned sonde to 406 MHz to avoid gondola sonde.
Sonde on MAPR may appear as a strong downward signal(aliased?) on SOAP plot.
MAPR shows sonde released during an updraft, consistent with fast

Problem with winds? 1-second data looked fine, but 10-s data absent and
also no winds in reprocessed data. D file also has no winds. Could be related
to weak signal strength? Reading coefficients from disk worked fine. Weak
signal throughout (again).

Tuned sonde to 406 MHz to avoid gondola sonde.
Did not see sonde on MAPR? Alot of vertical motion during the past hour and
it may be hidden by this.

Changed the rack and softward to read coefficients from the floppy disk which
is currently in the drive. A second copy of this file (Rscoeff.vsl) is in

Note: If we need to change back to using paper tape, the easiest way will
be to replace the rack tape reader with the spare (configured for paper
tape) and edit the file: C:\LabVIEW5\GLASS ver2.30\glass.cfg.

Getting the surface met across the net is not working.
"ISS k:\campbell\cr10data.txt" is not working properly. Get anj error message on the sounding system computer when it tries to read the file. I can check the file through the windows exploerer and it is up dating. I asked Gary and there have been no changes in the Sun software from Improve2 where this command line worked fine. I think I'm useing the same rev of Glass as I have out in Improve also.There also seems to be something wrong with the transfer of the sounding from the sounding pc to the sun. Wonder if this is related to all the networking problems yesterday. The K drive is mapped and I can access the folders from windows exploerer
