- 313: Sonics, Site 9, Wed 26-Jun-2002 08:36:24 CDT, UW sampling at 10hz
06/25/02 15:15-16:10
UW Discovered sampling at 10hz.
This is apparently the way it was and has been since getting
installed on 06/22 ~18:00
Decided to leave it at 10hz for the last day of the project
rather than further complicating the issue for post analysis.
11/13/02: sonic sampling changed at 22:45 GMT, June 22. TWH
- 296: Sonics, Site 9, Sun 23-Jun-2002 10:11:44 CDT, Sonic replaced at 9, jun22 17:30 - 18:45CDT
The K probe was replaced with a UW yesterday. The boom angle was
91 degrees, using a compass. This anle will be checked today with
the datascope.
- 276: Sonics, Site 6, Thu 20-Jun-2002 20:25:04 CDT, Site 6 Visit: ATI swapped
06/20/02 18:35-19:15
Purpose: ati sonic still reading higher than RMY
even after whacking Tom's weeds...but hey
now we have a nice new weed-eater!
Swapped Sonic:
Old= s/n 980202
New= s/n 980504
Preliminary results from examination at base
indicates this fixed the problem.
Note About Kh2o placement:
The new sonic has a level sensor. We put it
at the same respective position as on the old
ati, which makes the kh2o tube very close to
the level sensor box. The open path is off to
the side however, so this should be ok.
- 253: Sonics, Site , Sun 16-Jun-2002 13:39:40 CDT, nuw7
I've examined sonic nuw7 which had an intermittent path A. It is apparent that
the pads of the circuit board are damaged so that good contact to the
transducer wires is impossible. We should replace this board (if we want to
continue using these sonics). Since there is no immediate need for spares
here, I'll leave it in the base.
- 144: Sonics, Site 6, Sun 26-May-2002 17:36:43 CDT, Changed ATI sonic samples from 10 to 11
The ATI sonic was still programmed for 10 pulses per data output. Changed
to 11 pulses per data output.
- 119: Sonics, Site 8, Thu 23-May-2002 16:12:47 CDT, Restarted sonic at station 8
The sonic at station 8 stopped at 0150 GMT, May 23. Gordon and I went to
the site and restarted the sonic by recyling power at 1935 GMT.
- 97: Sonics, Site 6, Sun 19-May-2002 10:14:45 CDT, Sonic saga at station 6
Someone requested several days ago that a zero calibration should
be done on the sonic at site 6, which is NUW#5.
After returning to site 6, May 18th, and installing the fixed krypton we
tried to do the zero calibration.
Swapped in serial cable within EVE to bypass serializer.
Blue styrofoam zero-wind chamber on the transducer axis aligned
with U.
talked to UW, sonic, requested a calibration from menu, selected U axis.
Did not have an exact temp and RH, so we entered a guess for the
first time through. Sonic answered that it was performing
the calibration, followed by series of dots ........
It never returned to a prompt. After several minutes we powered
it down and back up. On power up it would then only report:
Bad factory checksum!
Bad user checksum!
We returned to the base and brought back the "known state" cable for ATI
sonics. We powered up the sonic several times with the known-state wire
shorted to the ground wire, but each time the sonic only reported
the same bad checksums. We also tried connecting known-state to ground
while it was powered up, still no response. Did not try grounding
the reset pin.
So we then installed a K probe, 980202. The krypton head is oriented
horizontally.
Mast back up at 19:00
- 76: Sonics, Site 5, Thu 16-May-2002 10:11:21 CDT, Sonic azimuth, May 12
May 12, about 19:15 CDT
Shot angles with KVH data scope (declination=6.0 east)
Sonic: 266.6, 267.3, 267.7
See entry #74 for times that mast was lowered.
- 69: Sonics, Site 9, Thu 16-May-2002 09:17:29 CDT, Replaced sonic at site 9
The ATI-K sonic at site 9 (980302) was not operating. Gordon and I
replaced it with 980303 (in a 20 m/sec wind!)
Mast lowered at 19:25 GMT, raised at 20:00.
Times based on looking at Tsfc, after the visit.
Because something caused the fuse to blow yesterday we checked
current loads to the ATI and krypton, using John's white cable:
ATI 980303: 4-5 mA
krypton 1394: 26 mA
On May 16, in the lab, measured current draw of the following:
krypton 1101: 10.5 mA
ATI 980302: 0 mA (It's dead Jim)
ATI 980202: 80 mA
- 65: Sonics, Site 9, Wed 15-May-2002 09:59:32 CDT, Replaced sonic at station 9
NUW sonic at station 9 (B-NUW7-C) has been intermittent; since the
u,w,tc data go bad but v looks okay, it appears to be a problem in
path a. The problem often appears to be triggered by a site visit
and lowering and raising the mast.
The new sonic at station is ATIK 980302 (#2).
The mast was lowered at 4:45 pm CDT and raised at 7:05 pm.
- 58: Sonics, Site 2, Mon 13-May-2002 14:48:01 CDT, Serializer replaced at site 2
csat/serializer has not been reporting for several days.
Saw variation on csat TX line. Jumpered around
serializer and csat was working, so the problem is with
the serializer and not the sonic.
Removed serializer csat1 02 4/22/02
Installed serializer: csat1 00 5/6/02
Data appears at 16:38 CDT, May 11.
- 42: Sonics, Site 9, Sat 11-May-2002 08:34:00 CDT, Sonic azimuth
Shot sonic boom azimuth (May 10, afternoon)
with data-scope: 271.9, 272.4, 272.4 degrees
(Mast was lowered on 5/9 to install krypton).
See previous entry for rad stand azimuths for comparison with azimuths
that were done at setup.
- 34: Sonics, Site 2, Sun 05-May-2002 20:32:54 MDT, Sonic at station 2 down
Sonic at station 2 is down. This occurred last
night. We will try to get somebody there on
Tuesday.
- 29: Sonics, Site all, Fri 03-May-2002 14:34:14 CDT, CSAT sonics AH parameter
John check the CSAT sonics that have been installed at sites 1-3,
and they all report AH=1 in the output of the ?? command.
- 8: Sonics, Site , Fri 19-Apr-2002 12:04:10 MDT, Configuration of ATI K-probes
I configured the ATI-K sonics today with shadow correction turned on
and an assumed error of 0 from 90-70 degrees and an assumed error of
20% for 0 degrees (wind parallel to path). They were also configured
to average 10 pulses per output or a data rate of 20 Hz (200 Hz
pulse rate).
This was done for serial numbers
980202
980302
980303
980504
980505
S/N 980505 had a bad v axis.
