Protecting ocean health is a health care plan for us for generations to come. A healthy ocean means healthy people, healthy economies and healthy places. 10 Simple actions can help protect ocean health:

  1. Reduce the amount of chemicals and plastics you use that might find their way into the coastal environment and waterways
  2. Preserve biodiversity by not buying coral jewelry or other products that have been harvested from coral reefs
  3. Maintain septic systems, pick up animal waste and properly dispose of it, and use waterproof covers over diapers when swimming
  4. Look for alternatives to harmful pesticides for use in homes, use non-toxic, safe insect repellents
  5. Promote clean waters through fuel reduction and buying locally
  6. Learn more about where your seafood comes from and support sustainable fisheries
  7. Support marine wildlife protection by keeping a safe distance and observing and not disturbing
  8. Pick up trash when you are at the beach or lake
  9. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle
  10. Always think about how our actions on land could be linked to the sea
