What's New [NEW]

  1. Updates on CASES-97

    1. New CASES-97 web page

CASES-97 now has its own web page that includes daily summaries, a surface site diagram with table, and coming soon, an online version of the operations plan.

    2. CASES-97 Becomes a Reality

Although installation was hampered by heavy rains, six of the eight NCAR/NSF surface flux stations have been installed, with installation of the remaining two imminent. Installation of the remaining three -- one from the University of Colorado, one from NOAA ATDD, and one that is part of the Argonne Boundary Layer Experiment Facility, should be complete for the beginning of the experiment on 22 April. All three profilers and rawinsonde base stations should also be installed and running by that time.

PI Computer setup at the CASES-97 Communications Center (at the ABLE office in Augusta) and in Ponca City will take place this week. A 'dress rehearsal' of the operations procedure will take place on Friday, 18 April, to insure that necessary equipment is in place and to refine procedures.

Aircraft will arrive in Ponca City by the 21 April. By the experiment, both aircraft will have checked out and refined the low-level tracks laid out earlier. The first possible day to fly will be 22 April. Operational summaries and plans will be available on the web within 24-48 hours.

  2. NOAA/NASA Joint GEWEX/GCIP Research Announcement

A new joint funding opportunity through the NOAA Office of Global Programs and the NASA Mission to Planet Earth has recently become available.

The deadline for letters of intent is April 30, 1997 and for proposals is May 30, 1997.

  3. New JETEX web page

The JETEX experiment now has its own web page including an incredible array of links to forecast data, project status and daily discussions.

  4. Transition at CASES Project Office

Effective December 16, John Pflaum is working at the NOAA National Weather Service Office of Hydrology on maximum rainfall probabilities.

Bob Grossman and Peggy LeMone will continue the functions of the office until a more permanent solution is found. Many thanks for your supporting letters which should help us in this effort.
