- 79: sonics, Site , Wed 29-Nov-2000 15:58:53 NZDT, spiking due to blowing snow crystals
The sonics are starting to show some spikes due
to blowing snow crystals.
- 63: sonics, Site , Mon 27-Nov-2000 17:44:28 NZDT, Upper sonic height
The upper sonic is at 7.0 meters.
It seems the estimate of 20cm lower
is correct.
This was done during the NSF rep visit.
- 61: sonics, Site , Mon 27-Nov-2000 14:56:04 NZDT, Visit to tower to measure sonic at 3.5 height measured at 3.1m
Time: 14:40 to 14:50 local
I was just out at the tower and did a measurement of the
lower sonic. From the head the height is 3.1 meters.
- 58: sonics, Site , Sun 26-Nov-2000 19:35:22 NZDT, Sonics leveled
I did a final adjustment on the sonics. Time was
~18:50 to 19:25 local.
- 53: sonics, Site , Sun 26-Nov-2000 11:48:55 NZDT, Sonic boom angle
Based on the map of the tower, I have assumed
the sonic boom angle to be 70 degrees. I have
changed the cal file.
- 39: sonics, Site , Fri 24-Nov-2000 20:20:14 NZDT, sonic spikes
The sonics like to spike when the blowing snow starts up.
I do not think ther is much we can do about that.
- 33: sonics, Site , Fri 24-Nov-2000 15:00:54 NZDT, Spiking on sonics
Both sonics are starting to show spikes. the winds have picked up
and the clouds have moved in. This may be related to tiny ice crystals
moving through the air. The spiking is on the U component. If it continues,
I may change the receive time window in the sonics.
- 25: sonics, Site , Thu 23-Nov-2000 15:42:23 NZDT, Sonic serial numbers
Here are the sonic serial numbers and heights
s/n height

980302 3.5
980202 7.2
- 17: sonics, Site , Tue 21-Nov-2000 17:13:09 NZDT, sonic status
3o ut of 4 sonis look good. The fourth one has flucuations
in the sample count. Attempts have been made to fix it.
The data looks reasonable. for now this sonic will be put
at the bottom of the pile as spares.
- 16: sonics, Site , Tue 21-Nov-2000 17:12:34 NZDT, sonics zeroed
The sonics have been zeroed at -25C.
- 7: sonics, Site , Mon 20-Nov-2000 10:55:03 NZDT, sonic status
Steve O and I have been discussing the sonic performance. One sonic
was acting up with sample counts changing. Steve thought we needed to
change the sample window to a longer period. At this time it has not
helped the questionable sonic. I changed it on another one and the sonic
started spiking. I set it back to our original value. For information,
the value changed was the LateLatch (xmt window end). Original value
was 535, new was 575.
