Poulos, Militzer, West visit 1600 Local 17 Apr

We shot boom angles with the new Theodolite.Shots were taken from the road west of the tower at ~ 50 m distance. The original records for the table below are noted in Poulos' green record notebook.

Poulos and Militzer shot boom angles with the new Theodolite. The leveling bubble was noted as slightly misaligned but tolerably so. John will pursue adjustment tomorrow. Shots were taken from the road west of the tower at ~ 60 m distance. Leveling was completed using a method of dual confirmation of boom parallel siting, theodolite leveling and predicted and actual sun targeting reading. The original records for the table below are noted in Poulos' green record notebook.

185: sonic, Site central, Thu 13-Apr-2006 18:00:30 PDT, 2m Sonic down
Cable for 2m sonic at central failed when the hotfilm system
was being re-installed. The 2m sonic is now only connected to
daisy.
181: sonic, Site central, Thu 13-Apr-2006 12:34:38 PDT, Guy Wires added to 5m tower
13Apr06, ~10:30PDT

Installed 2 'cross' guy wires to 5m tower to try to help stablizing the oscillations in the wind.

NOTE: this may have effected the sonic levels as the cables were tightened.

Restarted 25 m sonic with rserial -h /dev/ttyS10 central.

118: sonic, Site central, Tue 28-Mar-2006 14:55:57 PST, Hot film sonics on central nids
The 3 hotfilm sonics are now going through nids central. This was done
by extending the sonic cables to each the nids box. Whenever the hot film
is active these sonics need to be reconnected to Daisy.
117: sonic, Site central, Tue 28-Mar-2006 13:19:05 PST, hot-film sonics added to NIDS
In order to collect the 1,2,3 m sonic data when the hot-films are not running,
we are cabling them to the viper data system.

I have saved ads3.xml as ds3.xml.old and modified ads3.xml with the
following additional code:

27: sonic, Site south, Sun 05-Mar-2006 16:57:44 PST, south 30m now serialized
With the serializer swap to CSAT 1117 mentioned earlier, we had a sonic that
could go to 30m.s. We have just installed it. That means, for the first time
for TREX, all standard sensors finally are working! (Only 5 days and 1 1/4
IOPs late.)

Naturally, the network has started being flakey just to spite us. My guess
is that the wind is moving the antennae around (though the TPOP looks quite
stable at the base). The usb drives seem to be working through this. I've
just played around with TPOP channels. Gordon had left it as channel 11, but
I'm now running on 8 (after trying 2,3, and 5).

25: sonic, Site south, Sun 05-Mar-2006 13:28:56 PST, Serializer WARNING!
Since our now 2 spare sonics consisted of a dead sonic with a serializer and
a good sonic without a serializer (and we need a serializer still at 30m.s),
We just pulled the serializer out of 672 and installed it in 1117. Note that
this breaks the sequence that sonics with S/N <700 had serializers and newer
ones didn't. Someone will have to make a decision later as to whether to
swap this serializer back.

24: sonic, Site all, Sun 05-Mar-2006 12:48:12 PST, sonic S/N
After all the swapping, here is the latest list. [Note that 20m.c was 671, not
674 as in Chris's notes.]

		Central South West
30 671 1119 540
25 1123 674? 1120
20 855 1122 0800
15 856 1124 539
10 832 1121 536
5 538 537 677

"Spare" [waiting to be used with the hot-film system]
672 [has serializer, but reports 8000 on all data channels
1117 [works, but no serializer]

Now all but South 30m has a serializer, as originally intended. We will try
to put 672's serializer in 1117.

21: sonic, Site all, Sat 04-Mar-2006 17:23:35 PST, Sonic Update
Today consisted of relocating sonics/sonic boxes to put them in the correct positions. The west site is completed with sonics containing serializers at 5m and 30m. Central is completed with the exception of the 30m sonic. We are still troubleshooting as to the data we are receiving from 30m. We were unable to complete central due to winds. South needs both serialized sonics mounted possibly tomorrow, pending weather conditions.

The central site crashed again overnight last night so the morning was spent debugging the issue. The base computer was not recognizing the DHCP and we were having issues with the USB drive. We are still uncertain as to the problem of the central site going offline at night but the USB seems to be functioning properly at this time.

The logger cable for the NW radiometer at the central site was also repaired this morning.
16: sonic, Site central, Tue 28-Feb-2006 19:51:07 PST, central boom angles
Shot boom angles today, though the theodolite base wouldn't turn much -- had
to do a VERY coarse adjustment rotating the entire theodolite head.

Fortunately, much of the tower looked the same:

30m	93 deg 13'
25m	92 deg 35'
20m	92 deg 35'
15m	92 deg 35'
10m	92 deg 35'
5m	85 deg 21' [separate tower]
