118: RADAR, Site ISS3 (Bahia Kino), Tue 27-Jul-2004 20:26:27 GMT, Profiler performance
The wind profiler continues to operate well in the monsoon environment.

This morning I note a possible problem:
There is a weak second image in the Y+ beam spectral contour plots; even
weaker in the Y- beam. May indicate that the beam pattern is degrading
but not enough to affect the wind measurement. We should check the
switches carefully when back in Boulder.

117: RADAR, Site ISS3 (Bahia Kino), Tue 27-Jul-2004 20:23:51 GMT, Profiler data backup and down time (NAME_KIN03)
Profiler backup today

Backed up the PROFILER SPC files.

VOLUME: NAME_KIN03
Days 04200-04208 (July 18-26)

Profiler down from 19:21 through 20:22 for this process.
Can read (dir) disk on GLASS-pc; ok.
Also note SPC files are present on ISS3 workstation.
Deleted backed up files.

Made two CD copies. Will take one with us. Other stays at ISS3
Now free disk space is about 1.56 GB. Disk use is about 73 MB/day.
Disk write at 20.0%.

Should be enough free space to finish the project but backups are still
needed for redundancy.

NOTE: The CD-writer would not format a disk. I rebooted the profiler PC and
then it was normal. Suspect the power failure/recovery caused some confusion
with the writer.

100: RADAR, Site ISS3 (Bahia Kino), Thu 22-Jul-2004 18:39:33 GMT, Profiler failure
The profiler here at Kino stopped working around the time of the rawinsonde
launch at 17Z. The symptom was no Tx power. Receiver sample comb looked fine,
but also the Rx noise level may have been weak.

Powering down the RX/TX and Interface boxes and restarting the PC solved it.
Also, checked all cables and they looked fine. Not sure of the cause.

Profiler backup today

Backed up the PROFILER SPC files.

VOLUME: NAME_KIN01
Days 04186-04195 (July 4-13)
Also backed up /data/test files directory

VOLUME: NAME_KIN02
Days 04196-04199 (July 14-17)

Profiler down from 17:05 through 18:03 for this process.
Can read (dir) disk on GLASS-pc; ok.
Also note SPC files are present on ISS3 workstation.
Deleted backed up files.

Made two CD copies. Will take one with us. Other stays at ISS3
Now free disk space is about 1.50 GB. Disk use is about 73 MB/day.
Disk write at 19.8%.

I don't understand the extra disk usage on the D: drive. There appears to
be less than 100 MB on the disk, but properties reports about 500 MB used.
Still enough free space for about 3 weeks.

Once per day (after 0Z) spectra are copied for data manager for archiving and NIMA processing.

The site is next to an estuary. The water is fairly calm but does generate
some clutter at times. There are also trees, bushes, and power lines in the
area, however the signals are relatively clean.

The profiler was situated such that the trailer partially blocks a main lobe
directed towards the water. The antenna was also orientated to put the
diagonal nulls towards the sea.

Note that this system uses the RX/TX box and the computer from ISS2 because
of the repairs for the noise problem noted in a separate tklog entry.

9: RADAR, Site ISS3 (Bahia Kino), Sun 04-Jul-2004 04:41:26 GMT, Profiler repaired
Replacement parts arrived from Peurto Pensaco.

Replaced interface and rx/tx boxs which did not fix the problem.

Replaced computer and the noise went away, so the problem appears to be with
either the integrator card or the dsp card.

The system then had serious spectral spurs.
Tried increasing the delay and postblanking which helped,
however this wiped out the lowest gates (< 200m) on RASS.

Replaced the new rx/tx with the original and the spurs went away.
Returned delay and blanking to original settings.

Profiler operating normally from about 4:20UT (July 4).
