305: Site_visit, Site 4, Mon 24-Jun-2002 15:35:41 CDT, Site 4 Visit: Final Trime sample, clean rad,kh2o
06/24/02 15:20 - 15:30 Local

Purpose: Steve went to the west early today for the
	Final Trime Soil Measurement.

Cleaned RAD,kH2o

Trime measurements
ISFF	19.6
P3	21.4

286: Site_visit, Site 4, Sat 22-Jun-2002 19:33:11 CDT, Site 4 Visit: SDR stop 6/21
06/21 13:55 - 14:10 Local

SDR Test ended. 17:30 hours long. See entry 265 for times.

274: Site_visit, Site 4, Thu 20-Jun-2002 20:18:08 CDT, Site 4 Visit: SDR start, RG chk, Kh2o/rad cleaned
06/20 16:35-17:15 Local

Purpose: Install SDR
Check RainGauge because of suspicious tips/noise.

Rain Gauge: Had Mouse Did Travel!
Naturally the little bugger immediately scurried
	up inside the sawhorse leg...
I tried to put a bit of alum.foil in the bottom
of the gauge to prevent a rodent return, but it
	probably won't work.
11 False Tips: Test during visit from 17:00-17:10.
Note the logger definitely sent these 'late'
I scrambled to make the tips just before the
message was sent at 16:59:20. The logger, processing
at 5-sec. intervals reported 2 tips at 17:05, and
	9 at 17:10.

SDR Test initiated: Shield On. See entry 265 for times.

Move_metppf done.

Cleaned Krypton 16:56 local
Cleaned Rad	17:09 Local (pyg.in was dirty, rnet seemed ok
		psp.in had a small bit)

213: Site_visit, Site 4, Fri 07-Jun-2002 21:43:33 CDT, Site 4 visit
Arrive: 1520
[check of bad krypton data on 6/6; ongoing check of radiometers]
- removed krypton head at 1525 to attempt to fix bad coax connector -- broke it
- hard wired connector to electronics! (Will make service/packing a bit
  awkward.)
- radiometers cleaned at 1620, dessicant okay
- converted CR10 to fast mode; 0,1,0,0,0 coefs; collected data to s4l.020607
- converted CR10 back to normal mode
Depart: 1640

208: Site_visit, Site 4, Thu 06-Jun-2002 20:53:12 CDT, Site 4 visit
Arrived 9:49
Logger already wired to an extra separate battery. This battery was recovered
and the logger was wired to the third PAM battery
A jury-rigged one screw mount, within the plastic box was made for the Kr. This involved rotating the Kr mounting block so the box is on the sonic side of the
mast. The small coax connector of the Kr 1390 electronics needed to be reseated.
Copied card
Depart 10:37
203: Site_visit, Site 4, Thu 06-Jun-2002 11:02:31 CDT, Site 4 visit
[another log of this visit written by Tony]

Visit to reinstall krypton boxes after all that Tony brought back to the lab
yesterday passed inspection and to hang them in plasic boxes. This to be
done before a King Air PBL mission today over the Central legs.

- drove in (only wet around oil pumps)
- arrive 0949
- moved clamp, installed plastic box and krypton electronics by climbing
- copied /card
- switched CR10 from 4th battery to 3rd battery, disconnected 3rd from 2nd,
  removed 4th battery (with controller/monitor)
- checked krypton signal -- was low, reseated connector -- was 30-13000mV,
knew that this meant bad signal (coax) cable/connector problem, but that
connector inside box checked out okay yesterday. Deduced that the problem
was the coax cable, played with cable, now 600mV. THIS CABLE PROBABLY
  SHOULD BE REBUILT. S/N 1390.
- depart 1037

Arrived at 16:12

Cleaned Kr
Again tested Kr 1392 after an attempt by Steve to clean off the corrosion.
No avail. The Kr 1392 will be Fed Ex'd to Steve Semmer this evening.

CR10X power from separate battery. Had to keep ground wire connected to keep
the logger operating.
Removed the H2O from the 9-pin amp

Reseated EVE AD connectors

Dumped /card

Departed 17:05
178: Site_visit, Site 4, Sun 02-Jun-2002 13:51:40 CDT, Site 4 visit
Arrived 9:50

Downloaded card

Replaced braided ground strap with Cu wire

Kr cleaned

All screwstightened in soil multiplexer and shields gathered to common ground
All screws tightened in radstand multiplexer

Returned GOES box to position inside door and signal cables shielded against RF

Departed 11:05
Returned at 12:05 to check the placement of the soil multiplexer shield ground.
It had been in second from left ground. It was replaced in the first ground.
170: Site_visit, Site 4, Fri 31-May-2002 13:50:36 CDT, Site 4 visit
We got to s4 about 1216. I captured a lot of stuff onto file s4.020531.
During this time, we captured a GOES transmission with Tsfc, I think, then
turned the station off from about 1222-1229 while I put braid (ground strap)
around the krypton signal cable in the EVE box. Upon restarting, the serializer
didn't come up, but did after I disconnected and reconnected the DB9 on it.
I then captured the KH2O during a transmission -- a jump was not apparent,
but the krypton signal was highly variable.

Turned GOES off at 1238.
Saw the King-Air go by E-W about 1/2mi north about 1300, turn around, and come
back a few minutes later. Took several boring photos of it -- Tony thinks he
got a good one with our tower in the foreground.
Took a dirt clod sample at 1320 and left the site.

166: Site_visit, Site 4, Thu 30-May-2002 19:16:39 CDT, Site 4 visit
Arrived at 16:00.
There were oil-field workers doing things near the site.
The mast was not lowered.
The Kr was cleaned and signal improved from 150 mv to 460 mv
The TRH fan sounded OK as did the radstand multiplexer.
Following the procedure adapted at site 5 we removed the GOES DCP transmitter
and repositioned it outside and below the EVE box, with a tupperware cover.
Then we discovered that there still was GOES interference of 180 counts on Tsfc.
(Unfortunately we had not tested for noise before making the change)
We also captured the data from /card.

92: EVE, Site 4, Sat 18-May-2002 14:55:53 CDT, Swapped prom in EVE
Gordon swapped the prom in EVE. He replaced EVE 4/19/02 4FC6 with
IHOP02 5/14/02 0xA7BA.

He also checked the clock, which had only a 1 sec error compared to
the GPS time.

Rebooted at 10:27 CDT.

Power variables look okay.

91: Fast_KH2O, Site 4, Sat 18-May-2002 14:52:50 CDT, Cleaned kh2o sensor at station 4
I cleaned the windows on the kh2o sensor head and opened the electronics
box to clean the internal connectors on the bulkhead power connector.
The latter were heavily corroded. I sealed the box with Peel and Seal.
After cleaning the kh2o, the output was 1.3 V; back on at 10:36 CDT.

We installed a new prom in EVE, cleaned the kh2o head and the
power connector inside the electonics box, and downloaded the
local data storage.
