264: Radiation, Site 2, Thu 20-Jun-2002 07:59:19 CDT, Rnet Coef Change on 6/18
06/18/02 ~18:05 Local

Rnet Coef. Changed per values shown on the Q7 s/n 91090:
Was: Up=9.35 Down=11.55
Now: Up=8.57 Down=10.53

The Q7 had been replaced on 6/13, 17:45 but the old coefficients
were still being used. Now they're OK and the post processing
adjustment can be confined to the approp. window; ie
6/13 22:45 - 6/18 23:00

Note: the coef. took effect at the 'reboot' time of ~23:05Z
Note: Tony recorded the new s/n as 91096 and I wrote down 91090
He might be correct because it was a little hard to see
this so it'd be a good idea to confirm it during teardown.

SEE also: entry 244

See also entry 102. The "now" coefficients above correspond to
those for Rnet 91096, which I removed from site 8 on 5/19/02. TWH

13 Jun''02 trip to the western sites
Arrive 15:33
Panasonic dead and could not communicate with EVE.

Swapped GOES DCP unit. S/N 1002 removed and S/N 1001 installed.

Prior to swapping DCP boxes installed RF power monitor in line and using GPS
to determine transmission time.
Should transmit at 16:40:35, actual transmit time 16:40:42 to 16:40:58
Should transmit at 16:45:35, actual transmit time 16:45:42 to 16:45:58
Indicated power 15 watts on outer scale.

After swapping units
Should transmit at 16 :50:35, actual transmit time 16:50:42 to 16:50:58

!7:20 GOES transmission still operating.

Net rad dome observed to be dimpled.
17:45 Netrad # 99258 removed, netrad # 91096 installed

[ongoing boxing of krypton electronics; ongoing radiometer calibration]
Radiometer descicant LW.in OK, SW.in ?,spider persistant on LW.in. Cleaned domes

18:12 Kr disconnected. Box opened and was found to be sparkling clean without
any corrosion. Box mounted in plastic box

18:30 - 18:50 sun shadow patch test done on radiometers. Used 30s, 10s and 60 s
The logger was changed to fast data mode and later changed back to normal mode
Captured file s2l.020606

Card transfered.

!8:59 Kr windows cleaned.

A student, Jennifer? of Purdue was setting up a total column water GPS

Departed at 19:09

174: Site_visit, Site 2, Sat 01-Jun-2002 21:28:44 CDT, Site 2 visit
Arrived 15:16

Cleaned Kr and also removed spider web strings from sonic transducers.

Tightened all radstand Campbell screws

Wet cleaned the PSP and the Pyrg dome. They looked OK but the Pyrg pile
reading had been +ve previously and only returned to reasonable at the last
cleaning

Took "clods" for bulk density. 5mm crust with damp soil below. May not be
able to do clod method.

Steve tightened screws in soilmultiplexer and separated and grounded shields

Look at GOES jump, Tsurf 250, Kr = 0 before shielding

Shieled Kr and A/D cables .After shielding Tsurf and Kr GOES jumps small.

Dumped /card, captured to S2.02.06.02

Departed 16:10

TWH extracted the following from Josh Uebelherr and Joseph Alfieri
email recieved 5/25/02

14) Site 2: 5/20/02
Arrival: 1409
Departure: 1901
Conditions: sunny, scattered cumulus to NW, strong SSW winds
Observers: JA & JU

-Radiometers cleaned and level checked at 1620 (?).

-Surface Characterization transects selected:

(i) western transect begins 25m west of Site 2 radiometer 'saw horse',
extends for 20m and is marked by orange flags every 5m

(ii) southern transect begins 20m south of radiometer 'saw horse',
extends for 20m and is marked with orange flags every 5m

-Surface Characterization:

(i) Gravimetric soil core sample collected 10m west of the radiometer
"sawhorses" at 1447.

(iii) Trime measurements taken next to soil moisture profiler and soil
core, as well as along western and southern transects.

(iv) IR surface temperature distribution with vegetation height taken in
field of view of flux tower IR instrument, 4 samples taken at 2 different
times. IR surface temperature distribution with vegetation height also
taken along western and southern transects

(v) MSR readings taken along western and southern transects as well as
in field of view of flux tower IR instrument.

(vi) LAI measurements taken in field of view of flux tower IR instrument
as well as along western and southern transects

(vii) Porometry data lost due to improper baud rate during download -
information garbled and deleted from storage device

(viii) NO xylem potential measured since dominant 'vine-weed' vegetation
not compatible with this procedure

(ix) Photographs taken of 4 cardinal directions and of the "vineweed".

(x) Digital photos taken of 4 cardinal directions and along western and
southern transect.

Tom opened up the krypton box at site 2, S/N 1133.

Connections inside were in good shape - no oxidation.
Fastened it back up without new sealant.

Cleaned head (distilled water and Qtip) sometime between

csat/serializer has not been reporting for several days.

Saw variation on csat TX line. Jumpered around
serializer and csat was working, so the problem is with
the serializer and not the sonic.

Removed serializer csat1 02 4/22/02
Installed serializer: csat1 00 5/6/02

Data appears at 16:38 CDT, May 11.

34: Sonics, Site 2, Sun 05-May-2002 20:32:54 MDT, Sonic at station 2 down
Sonic at station 2 is down. This occurred last
night. We will try to get somebody there on
Tuesday.

26: Status, Site 2, Wed 01-May-2002 22:05:24 MDT, rain test
During setup, a rain test was made. The bucket
was tipped ~10 times. So any rain event during setup
is false data.

25: Status, Site 2, Wed 01-May-2002 21:22:16 MDT, Site 2 setup
Site 2 was setup today. Here is some additional
information about the site.
Sonic serial number - 538
Sonic height - 3.43 m
Sonic angle - 85 degrees
Krypton serial number - 1133
Radiation stand height - 2.14 m
Everest serial number - 3389-3
Wind Prop/Vane serial number - 35500
profile box number - 6
TRH serial number - 005

TWH added the following from an email from SRS:

We had to make a few changes to the layout at site 2.

(1) The angle from the tripod to the rad stand is 230 degrees. At 240
degrees, the mast in a down position was close to the dark horse so we
moved the dark horse more toward the south.

(2) The rain gauge, due to cable length, is about 2 meters due east of
the profile box.

(3) The profile box is 4 meters due NNW, 335 degrees, of the west leg
 of the dark horse.
