Ground Clutter and Horizon Information for CP4 in WISP94

WISP94 CP4 Coordinates:
        40:06:08 N. Latitude
       104:21:26 W. Longitude
            1453 m Elevation (at feedhorn)
The CP4 radar site in WISP94 was located in a shallow depression with a horizon at an elevation of (typically) .5 degree and a range of about 20km. Ground clutter to the NNE and SSW was visible for quite a distance beyond this 20km range, however. Still, the CP4 site is considered to be very good, based upon potential ground clutter problems.

CP4 clutter images clearly show the Colorado Rockies (at about 80km range, and between azimuths of 220 through 320 degrees), as well as the grid pattern of nearby roads in Eastern Colorado (return is actually off of the power/phone lines strung along the roads). In addition, a road cut at 90 degrees azimuth allows a return from a gently sloped incline (and building and towers on this incline) at a range of about 90km.

Information off of this page is presented largely for completeness of documentation. Horizon information is included. Clutter images are in gif format, and were taken during special scans prior to the start of project data collection. A test pulse is visible in most of the images at about 75km range. Each image, except the last, shows both reflectivity (dBZ) and velocity (m/s); color scales for each parameter are included at the bottom of the image.

The following are available:
