Saturday Aug 7
An IOP was contiueing 
Display Manager backup was made
Meet with operators asked if they had any concerns on operations or equipment
all seemed fine with how things are running
Asked them to shut down all equipment at the end of project.
There is some question at all sites but especially at this site due to the long drive to Hermosillo when is the final launch of the project. An email needs to 
sent to all sites covering this issue. Students at Penasco have noon flights out
of Hermosillo on the 16th and a 6 hour drive to get there. Local students could cover last flights if need be.


Sunday Aug 8
Surface met was shutdown from approx 16:50 z to 18:05 z.This was to collect
sample files to observe the t-dome and t-case temperatures on the IR sensor 
in an attempt to figure out the spikes in the data.
Profiler was shutdown from 18:40z for approx 1 hour to back up hard drive data.

Successful launches.  Had trouble at first of sending email of sounding data on Aspen during 26 July 0z launch, but the computer was rebooted and that seemed tofix the problem and so data might have been sent 3x

Last night the town was hit with a good isolated thundershower.  Although it 
looks like no precipitation was recorded by the iss station, the downtown 
area and near our condos about 8km south of the iss definately had measureable 
precip as there were a few puddles in the streets.  Other than that it has 
cleared out by morning and there are thunderstorm clouds building again to our 
North and East in the afternoon

Instruments are working properly, the IR sensors were cleaned since they were 
dirty from last nights precipitation

Went through our 9th He tank and have 19 remaining as shown below

outflow of t-storms near us.  The profiler shows this neatly.  Other than the 
high winds, it has been a clear day for the most part, but high clouds are 
starting to roll in from the NE.

IRT Problem Noted:
Especially on 7/17 and since there have been deviations of the IRT
at this site indicated by slow drift upwards to as much as >600w/m^2
and with a sudden step-function drop down to a more typical value
of 400-450w/m^2.

7/19/04 ~21:20  Checked Wiring: seemed OK.
	Checked Resistance/Voltages: seemed OK (dome/case ~3.5k, divider
		at 930ohms, ~3.xxx mV on thermopile.
	NOTE: in data a step function is very evident at this time
	perhaps implying a campbell wiring problem?...

7/20/04 18:30 Rechecked Wiring as above: OK, and no step function.

	21:50 - 22:15 Swapped Tdome/Tcase inside campbell 6L/6H
	'What-the-heck' try to see what that does even though
	it really appears that the wiring is consistent with available
	documentation.....Upward rise of ~30w/m^2.
	Conclusion wiring is ok as documented for tdome / tcase.

        22:15 - 22:30 Swapped leads on thermopile (5L/H)
	Interesting the values jumped up to 650....suspicious that it
	sort of matches the 'upward drift' value of the problem noted
	above.
	Values recovered after putting back to original wiring config.


Checked NAMEISS2.CSI file: OK (did not check .dld)
	serial numbers and tdome/tcase coef correct: #PYG32687
	NOTE: the coef are truncated not rounded in the 5th place value
	I doubt that could be an issue.

Conclusion:
	IRT Wiring is OK.
	Possibly thermopile or thermisters going bad.  Less likely a
	campbell excitation/adc.

As a check I measured the input VDC to the LNA coming from the
injector block to make sure it was sufficient as opposed to what
we've seen (prior to modif.) in Los Mochis and somewhat under-
voltage in Kino.

Paused POP from 2105Z to 2200Z for data backup.

Wrote 2 CD's

NAME_PP01 Contains D04188 - D04196 (July 6-14, 2004).
NAME_PP02 Contains D04197 - D04200 (July 15-18, 2004).

I made two copies of NAME_PP01 BUT when I tried to make a second copy
of NAME_PP02 I was getting a windows error: unable to read the disk file.
The happened three times (with three CD's). I deleted the files in NAME_PP01
but not those in NAME_PP02. However, there appear to be good copies of all the
data on the first written CD and on the ISS-2 workstation (/iss/ds/spc/).

The backups look correct on the GLASS CD drive. I will run them through POP
on my laptop this evening.

Disk write was 58.1%; is now 20.7% (1.5GB free)

We arrived today at ISS-2 Puerto Penasco.

Skies have had a few high clouds passing through.  Cumulunibus clouds have 
formed to the North and East.  The main story here has been the strong gusty 
winds from the gulf surge, especially during the 18z sounding. Winds have died a bit but are still currently at about 6-7 m/s  

Today's soundings went well except for close calls of the sonde hitting a 
structure during takeoff due to gusty winds. 

We went through our 4rd He tank.

Instruments are working properly.

We installed the updated version of ASPEN (v 2.5.3) today

In the early morning hours (12z sounding) there was lightning to the far East 
with maybe a trace of precipitation although nothing that was measurable, it was very humid and moist.  Sunrise started with scattered cirrus clouds overhead, 
which dissapeared in the afternoon. In the afternoon hours there were 
cumulunimbus and cumulus clouds which formed to the North and East horizons. 
Currently some of the cumulunimbus cloud tops from the East are moving westward towards our location.

Soundings have been going well so far, we went through our 3rd He tank.

The weather has been very hot and dry, with rh values currently at 21% and 
dewpoint falling, this is shown by water vapor imagery.  Skies have been clear 
overhead throughout the day, with cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds on the North 
and East horizons as the day progressed.  Light sea breeze

The first 11 July 2004 0Z sounding failed due to no sattelite data or wind data,a second attempt was made and went sucessfull, other instruments are fine, we 
went through our second Helium tank.

The profiler directions were corrected at about 20UT (July 6).
The labels on the antenna were out by 180 degrees.

The temperature/rh fan was blowing instead of sucking so we reversed it 
at about 1930 UT (July 6).  The temperature reading dropped about 3C 
and the RH jumped up about 10%.
