Power was lost at the MVCO shore lab on Martha's Vineyard and aster was not plugged into the UPS. Consequently aster died sometime after 06:11 EDT on September 29: [aster@aster all]$ Broadcast message from root (Wed Sep 29 06:11:36 2004): Battery Low Notification from APM BIOS (8% 0:15) Read from remote host 128.128.205.42: Connection timed out Connection to 128.128.205.42 closed. Jim Edson went to MV on the evening of September 30 and restored AC power to aster at 18:43 EDT. Gordon then restarted ragwort to force it to resume sending data to the base.
Noticed some loss of data in /var/log/local/isff.log. Port 45538 is the current port to archive: Aug 12 06:02:23 aster ingest(ragwort)[20246]: socket write to aster port 45538: Resource temporarily unavailable, blocked:23001, unreachable:0, errors:0 Aug 12 06:02:25 aster ingest(ragwort)[20246]: aster port 45538, 14001 lost samples due to blocked writes Aug 12 06:02:25 aster ingest(ragwort)[20246]: socket write to aster port 45538: Resource temporarily unavailable, blocked:24001, unreachable:0, errors:0 Aug 12 06:02:28 aster ingest(ragwort)[20246]: aster port 45538, 15001 lost samples due to blocked writes Aug 12 06:02:28 aster ingest(ragwort)[20246]: socket write to aster port 45538: Resource temporarily unavailable, blocked:25001, unreachable:0, errors:0 Aug 12 06:02:30 aster ingest(ragwort)[20246]: aster port 45538, 16001 lost samples due to blocked writes At 6:02 is when cron.daily is run. According to /etc/crontab it should be run at 04:02, but crontab must still be on MST. So, I disabled some entries in /etc/cron.daily: chmod -x slocate.com rpm And I shut down covar, and commented it out in ragwort.up.
If you ned to stop and restart the data acquisition process on ragwort do a "ndaqrestart ragwort" on aster (the shorelab machine). This should stop the data acquistion. It will then startup again. Try this first before doing a reboot on ragwort.

The link between aster and ragwort is going. The spare sonic is hooked up to port 200. The system will run in this mode until we are able to deploy the other sonics.
The base station, aster, has been setup at the WHOI shore lab. This is on Martha's vineyard at the airport. Below is some useful information IP address: aster 128.128.205.42 ragwort 128.128.205.109 gateway 128.128.205.1 NTP server: dns1.whoi.edu (128.128.16.2)
