Full Name: Scanning Mobility Particle Spectrometer
Short Name or Acronym: SMPS
Model if applicable:
Measurements Provided: Aerosol size distribution from about 20--1000 nm in a scanning cycle that covers a few minutes
Manufacturer or Builder of the Instrument: ACD, based on a TSI instrument and software
When Acquired: 2011
Operational Status:
requestable, ready for deployment (although early in usage, still being checked)

Description of Software, Data Handling, and Data Flow:
Software Components (data acquisition, display, processing, and analysis):
Data Processing Chain (from flight to archival): Size distributions are recorded on the instrument itself and are downloaded for further processing after flights. The measurements can be a separate datastream, or typical size distributions can be merged into the final archive files. However, because the samples each span a few minutes, in the latter case each measured size distribution must be considered the average over the sample. Rather than the instantaneous measurement of a size distribution.
