Full Name: Digital Imagery
Short Name or Acronym: Digital Video
Model if applicable: Point Grey Research FLEA HICOL-CS with Navitar 412 lens
Measurements Provided: Image forward (left / right / downward) of aircraft, typically acquired at 1 image/second
Manufacturer or Builder of the Instrument: Point Grey Research (cameras) and Navitar (lens) Other models are available and have been used for higher resolution or monochrome images.
When Acquired:2006 through 2012
Operational Status: requestable, ready for deployment
General Description:
Calibration Methods: Field of view is calibrated by viewing a known size object from a known distance. With the 4 mm Navitar lens there is some barrel distortion so the FOV of a pixel is not the same size all across the array.
History of Significant Changes to the Instrument:
c .2009: Dan LaGreca software for acquisition, display.
Description of Software, Data Handling, and Data Flow:
Software Components (data acquisition, display, processing, and analysis): linux firewire (libdc1394) libraries. The acquisition code is modified from example code by Dan Lagreca. Post flight annotated images and movies are generated by PERL scripts. See Janine Aquino for the scripts.
Data Processing Chain (from flight to archival): Stored images are archived without change. Images are also made into movies (H.264-compressed .mp4) with time and variable annotation.
QA Procedures and Needs: Check for dropouts, cut out non-flight periods, nighttime periods.
Safety Issues: None
Examples of Measurements: Below is a frame from a typical movie. In this clip the resolution of the image is 1/2 that of the original image recorded by the camera and stored in the image archive.
