Hotels along US 1 are served by a good Metrorail and could be another option.
The Metrorail has a University of Miami stop along US 1 opposite the
Holiday Inn,
a University shuttle bus can also take you from the
Metrorail stop to the Alumni Center. Both the shuttle bus and Metrorail
run frequently.
There is no need to drive, but should you drive, parking is available at $7/day in a parking
garage near the entrance to the
University (on Ponce de Leon,
parallel to US1).
Places to eat:
Further afield (short taxicab ride) excellent restaurants in varying
price ranges can be found in Merrick Park Village along
LeJeune Road (nearest), downtown Coral Gables, and downtown Coconut Grove.
South Miami, ~ one-half mile south on US 1 from the hotels has many
restaurant options and a Whole Foods grocery.
A block from the Alumni Center is the Titanic Brewery and Restaurant. Nearby options exist along US 1 south of the hotels, e.g., Moon Thai (OK), Smoke't BBQ (recommended) and for breakfast: Bagel Emporium, Starbucks.
Miami is meat-centric but almost all restaurants have vegetarian options.
Bike rentals are available nearby the hotels on US 1. The university campus and nearby neighborhoods are excellent for jogging and walking.
