• Rationale of the joint PACS/GAPP effort:

- Current numerical models do not accurately simulate/predict warm season precipitation

- Both ocean and land are important to warm season precipitation prediction.

- The joint initiative combines the expertise in ocean-atmosphere coupling from CLIVAR with the expertise in land-atmosphere coupling from GEWEX

• The joint PACS/GAPP effort was initiated in the joint PACS-GCIP Modeling Workshop in 1997

• The joint call for proposals started from FY00
