General Description:
Arou station, built in Wawangtan prairie Caodaban village Qilian county of Qinghai province, is a big prairie which located in a river valley highland on the south of Babao River of the upstream of Heihe. It is freeze thawing. Around the Arou station, there is a flat and open terrain comparatively, and a slightly slope tilt down from southeast to northwest, about 3 kilometers away from south and north of site is continuous massif and mountains.
Arou freeze thawing observed site is 12 meters width from east to west, and 16 meters length from south to north. There is a 10 meters micro-meteorological observing tower in the test site, and observed sensors of wind, temperature and humidity grads respectively on 2 meters and 10 meters on the observing tower, and a hyetometer on 2.82 meters. About 5 meters away from the south of tower stands a 1.5 meters radiation shelf, deploying two short wave radiometers and two long wave radiometers on it.
There is a east facing and 1.6 meters depth soil profile which is 3 meters away from the northeast of micro-meteorological observing tower. Soli heat flux sensor is deployed in the 0.05m and 0.15m depth, and a six levels soil temperature and soil water sensor are deployed in 0.10m, 0.20m, 0.40m, 0.80m, 1.20m, 1.60m respectively. The soil profile is disposed with layering in excavation and burying process to keep the original layered structure, and the vegetation layer can be reserved more completely.
