General Site Characteristics Brief description of regional
landscape: Lan-Yu is a 46 km2 island with
lower native population. It is 310 Km
south-eastern away of Taipei city and the shortest distance to Taiwan Land is
60Km. The intensive observing site is
located in the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) Lan-Yu station which is on the
moutains ridge of this Lan-Yu island. The site area
uses with 200 meters: Potential local sources of
contamination (Coal and biomass burning,
agricultural fertilizers, major highways, local dust, overhanging vegetation,
etc.) Distance and location from
site/size/seasonal variability:
Two valleys along the unique beach road locate on
the eastern and western sides of the Lan Yu site. Small farms are
besides Security issues/Site access
constraints (4-wheel drive road, gates/locks,
time of day/week/month/year, etc.): The
road up to the hill is so sharp that it s not recommended to drive a
general-use car or motorcycle by oneself. One 4-wheel car belonged to the CWB
is the main transportation for visitors. |
