From wlee@stout.atd.ucar.edu Wed Sep 27 11:44:32 1995 From: wlee@stout.atd.ucar.edu (Wen Chau Lee) Subject: VORTEX ELDORA message #3 VORTEX ELDORA MESSAGE #3 Due to a failure on frequency #3 on the fore radar, the velocity data (fore radar only) on 5/12/95 from 1913 to 2149 UTC are unusable. The newest SOLO package was released as of this afternoon (9/26/95). If your group have not received an email from Michele Case or Sherrie Smith regarding the new release, please let me know. For those of you who has a BIG hard disk and attempts to put lots of ELDORA data (or any data) on disk, please be aware that the sweep widget in SOLO can only display a certain number of scans (something like 1000). This is due to a X-window limitation. Unfortunately, none of the computer expert can give us a definite number regarding the limit. This limitation will not affect your sweep files. You just cannot view them all at once. The RAF netcdf files with a fixed extension that was distributed to all of you in my last message still have incorrect date in the file. This problem should only affect the netcdf files on 4/30/95 and 5/31/95. This discrepancy was discovered in the field and supposed to be corrected in the fixed netcdf files. Well, they are not fixed. For the moment, please add the following line in your translator script: setenv AC_TIME_CORRECTION -172800 to account for the extra 2 days in the netcdf date. I would like to thank Ching-Hwang Liu of UCLA bring this to our attention. Also, the netcdf files are NOT quality controlled by RAF. RAF will probably get to these files in a month or two from now. When the QCed netcdf files are available, I will let everyone know. Stay tune for message #4 on the correction factors. Wen-Chau Lee
