The internal disk of the SUN IPC as part of the real-time data system was corrupted. The Solaris system CD ROM and the system backup tape were sent via Federal Express but the package did not show up Saturday Morning. Craig swapped the dead IPC with the backup unit. A few system files were ftped from Boulder to revive the system but the efforts fell short. At 4:30 pm Friday, the mission was called off. Craig and I called Rich Neitzel and asked him to come to Norman as soon as possible. Rich arrived around 8:30 Saturday night and worked on the system for 2 hours. P3 reported a supercell in northern TX which produced 4 mesocyclones but no tornado. ELDORA was fixed Sunday morning. Electra flew a mission Sunday afternoon with high expectation that supercells would be around across northern TX. However, all we found was good boundary layer returns, a few showers but no thunderstorms. Eldora sampled a dryline well (12 deg C equivalent potential temperature difference across the line at one penetration). Everyone was disappointed about the weather since we missed a good case yesterday. But, the good news is: ELDORA is up and running. Today is a mandatory downday for both P3 and Electra. The condition for supercell looks better toward the end of the week. Bob Rilling and Tim Rucker returned to Boulder on Sunday. I would like to thank them for doing an excellent job in the past few weeks. Wen-Chau
