Range Shift, Ka vs. S-band
WISP04, NCAR Marshall Field Site
Feb/Mar/Apr 2004
The
two radar images are centered on the Frederick tower (a ~300 meter
tower). It can be clearly seen that the Ka echoes are displaced
outward from the S-band echoes by approximately one gate. Arguably,
the gate difference is greater than one, and is perhaps as much as
one-and-a-half, but it would be far from convenient to shift echoes by
a fraction gate amount (the proper way to align gates is to adjust
processor delays during set-up, and get gates to match that way).
