PROP WIND DIRECTIONS:

Prop. wind directions were shot with the Nikon
today. They are listed below. A second person should
do a check to verify these numbers.
These angles have been entered in the sensors at about
23:30 GMT on JD46.

prop	angle

1m	145.0
2m	145.8
4m	145.8
7m	145.8
10m	145.3

Prop directions off by 180 degrees.

Steve S. confirmed this this morning (boom orientations entered as the angle sighted -
which is the direction the wind sensor is facing, rather than the direction it is
pointing). We'll wait until after this IOP the change it back.

NEW WIND DIRECTIONS:

The wind direction error has been corrected.
180 was added to each sensors' direction parameter.
Below is the direction values entered.

sensor (channel #) direction

1m (200) 325.0
2m (201) 325.8
4m (202) 325.8
7m (203) 325.8
10m (204) 325.3

I noticed that this boom seemed to be sagging, so I reseated the yoke. This probably
changed the height by about 2 cm.

PROP WIND DIRECTIONNS:

Prop. wind directions were shot again with the Nickon today
They are listed below along wwith the directions of all the sonics.
These angle corrections will be entered into the prop sensors for
JD 53. The towers were also sighted in for vertical alignment and bowing.

       prop angle

	1m 325.95
	2m 326.26
	4m 326.06
	7m 326.06
       10m 325.38

This tower is slightly bowed to the west, and the 1m yoke
was loose.

	UW sonic

	10m 324.09
	 4m 324.09

This tower is straight and vertical.

	NCAR ATI	326.61

This tower is straight but leans slightly to the east.

	GILL SONIC 324.94

This tower is straight and vertical.

	ATI SONIC	330.11

This tower is straight and vertical.

The psyc Tower leans slightly to the west.

THe winds were light, but the other 4 props were still going. Perhaps
its time to service the bearings on this one (ID003).

10m Speed and Direction Plots

I rewrote some scripts to implement the 10m
speed and direction plots for ARM91. The
script ~aster/scripts/comp_uv10m writes a
file with the prop vane u and v wind components
from all levels and places it in the directory
ARM91/results/profiles. The output file is named
prop#. The script is executed as
comp_uv10m .

The plot is made from S using, e.g.
fun.winds("profiles/prop#059"). The exact
file name depends on the directory from which
you are running S. Any directory under
~aster will work; the example assumes
~aster/projects/ARM91/results. The source
file for the S function is ~horst/sfun/winds.platte.

I plotted all past data, including that prior
to Feb 19 when the wind direction error in the
prop vanes was corrected. For data prior to
Feb 19, I added commands to winds.platte to
multiply the u and v wind components by -1.
This S function source file is ~horst/sfun/
winds.platte.err.

The 4m prop would not come back
to life after recycling power. Therefore,
it was replaced with sensor #6. The direction
was set the same as the 4m, 326.06. The pitch
is 292. This was completed a few minutes ago.

The 10m prop wind speed has shut down. This
occurred about 10 minutes ago, 21:00 GMT. Direction
information is still coming in. At this time I have no
clue as to why.

7m wind speed & direction plot

I modified the Splus wind speed and
direction plotting routine to alternately
plot the 7m winds rather than the 10m.
This is invoked with the optional input
variable, altprop=T, e.g.:

fun.winds("prop#070",altprop=T)

The 10m prop was removed at about 21:30 GMT.
The problem was in the 4490 debounce switch used for speed
pulses. The sensor was repaired and installed at 22:30 GMT.
