Writin' CDs:
A day's archive of ebex data is about 500-600 Mbytes, which
fits on a 650 Mbyte CD.
To write a CD from clover (not aster):
1. check what's online:
cd /data/big/aster/projects/EBEX00/raw_data/all
ls
2. Press the eject button on the CD-R 4x4x16 drive on clover,
and insert a blank CD.
3. run the bkcd.all script. This can be run from any directory:
bkcd.all month day
where month and day are the numeric month and day to be
written, for example, for August 5th:
bkcd.all 8 5
4. The script makes a copy of the day's files on /data/bigger,
moves the files to
/data/big/aster/projects/EBEX00/raw_data/cdbackup/all
copies them to the CD, verifies the contents of the CD,
deletes the files from /data/big, ejects the CD, and
prints a label (All without complaining or getting paid,
while you're sitting on your butt watching the lights blink!)
5. Assuming everything works, wait until the manual feed light
appears on the printer. Then insert a cd label sheet
(made by CDSTOMPER) into the back of the printer,
against the right side guide, printable side facing you,
with the printable label at the bottom of the sheet.
(One sheet contains two labels, and can be fed through
the printer twice, from either end).
6. Peel the label, put it over the spindle on the CDSTOMPER,
sticky side up. Place the CD on the spindle (LABEL side DOWN!
DATA side UP!), and press down. Put the CD in a plastic
holder and file in the box.
If you get what appear to be CD write errors, then try lightly
spraying the CD drawer and inside the drive with the canned
duster. Then try again with a new CD, using the same command.
The script also writes a log file on $ASTER/projects/EBEX00/cdlogs,
which you can refer to if things are not working.
